College of Engineering
Kira Smith (BSME '20) credits her scholarship with giving her the time to explore research.

In the UW College of Engineering, we are dedicated to providing students with an inclusive, leading-edge engineering education, grounded in engineering fundamentals, with unique opportunities to participate in cutting-edge research. Whether this is through remote education or in person learning, the College of Engineering delivers a world-class engineering education.

Donors are essential to broadening access to a world-class education and reimagining the student experience. Your gift supports the next generation of engineering leaders who will tackle challenges ranging from the need for clean energy and clean water, to affordable health care delivery, to cyber security, to technology access for individuals with disabilities and more.

Join us today to help engineering students from all backgrounds succeed, from their first days on campus to their post-college careers, by making a gift to one of the following priorities:

STARS Student Support Fund

The Washington STate Academic RedShirt (STARS) program utilizes a holistic cohort model to support engineering and computer science students from low-income, first-generation and educationally underserved backgrounds. STARS students receive a specialized two-year curriculum designed to build learning skills and strengthen academic preparation for core math and science prerequisites. Now in its 8th year, retention or graduation rates of STARS students in engineering or computer science are 77%. STARS students speak to its life-changing impact; Civil and Environmental Engineering graduate Judo Lata writes, “To STARS I owe waves of gratitude and I am beyond thankful to be where I am today.”

Dean’s Scholars Scholarship Fund

This fund provides broad-based scholarships to a cohort of diverse first-year students, particularly those with financial need, first-generation college students and talented Washington students from diverse backgrounds who might otherwise leave the state for compelling offers elsewhere. As a cohort, these students will participate in educational support experiences during the first year such as a summer transition program and quarterly academic workshops.

Engineering Capstone Design Fund

Capstone design projects provide a valuable opportunity for all undergraduate seniors to tackle complex, full-cycle design projects. Students frequently absorb the cost of these projects, from testing to prototype materials. This fund provides resources and support to enable students to move their designs from concept to reality.

Thank you for supporting the College of Engineering and for being a part of our community. Your gift truly makes an impact as we work to provide an exceptional experience for our students and expand access to a UW Engineering education.

$1,000
Dean’s Challenge for the STARS Student Support Fund
For every ten gifts to the STARS Student Support Fund, UW Engineering Dean Nancy Allbritton will unlock another $1,000 toward the fund—up to a total of $10,000.
