We believe that person-to-person diplomacy as key to international understanding, and that connections between individuals can lead to bonds between communities and bridges between cultures and nations. When people from diverse backgrounds share experiences, conversations and learning in a safe environment, they build relationships that have the potential to shape the future for all of us. All FIUTS programs engage participants as ambassadors of their own experiences and connect them with people who think and act differently, providing space and time for curiosity, dialogue and reflection.
Since the start of the pandemic, we have adapted our programs in important ways to offer opportunities for people to connect to each other in spite of their differences, and build bonds within our community that reach across the globe
Please make a gift this Husky Giving Day to provide social opportunities for UW international students and our Puget Sound community. Your gift will fund innovative and free programs like:
- Language Exchange: We've evolved our language exchange bulletin board to an online version, making it possible for people to seek a language partner no matter where they are in the world. More than 260 people are now connected, sharing and learning over 14 languages together.
- Race and Racism Discussion Series: As our country continues to grapple with systematic racism and the oppression of minority voices, this is an opportunity for people to come together virtually with facilitated dialogue about their own experiences of race and questions about racism here and around the world.
- CulturalFest: Our annual celebration of diversity, international art and culture was entirely online this year. The interactive International Expo and streamed Performance Showcase featured more than 35 countries and cultures, honoring the diversity of our UW student and greater Seattle community.
